Rovos Rail Safari - D

Rovos Rail Safari (5*)

Pretoria - Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe) - Johannesburg

Enjoy a three night journey on the Rovos Rail from South Africa to the breathtaking Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and choose between staying 1 or 2 nights after the train trip at the Victoria Falls Hotel. With unparalleled views of Africa's magnificent landscapes and sights the train winds its way north through Warmbaths, so named for its mineral waters.  Then through Nylstroom, christened by the Voortrekkers as the source of the Nile River. The train then passes the edge of the escarpment and cross the Tropic of Capricorn before crossing the border into Zimbabwe for the final stretch to Victoria Falls on the mighty Zambezi River. A 1600 kilometre journey, linking Pretoria to the Victoria Falls.

More Information

  • DAY 1: Pretoria / Zimbabwe border

Meet and greet by a representative of eXplore Plus Travel & Tours at the train station at 08h00 for an introduction to the beautifully appointed station and to enjoy refreshments with a briefing before you board the train. Settle into your suite and enjoy the ambience of the train recapturing the Golden Age of Travel.  The train departs at 09h30 from the Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria with a steam locomotive before switching over to diesel or electric locomotives (use of steam has become increasingly difficult over the years as more and more water, and coaling facilities have been scrapped).  Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train travels north through Bela-Bela (meaning the pot that boils) and Modimolle (previously Nylstroom), christened by the Voortrekkers as the source of the Nile River as the town’s river happened to be north flowing. The train then passes the edge of the escarpment and crosses the Tropic of Capricorn en-route to the South Africa/Zimbabwe border at Beitbridge
